Former All-EuroLeague selection and 2019 7DAYS EuroCup champion Fernando San Emeterio announced his retirement as a basketball player on Friday at a ceremony at La Fonteta, Valencia Basket's court that has served as his second home for the past six seasons.

With many of his former coaches and teammates in attendance, the 37-year-old hung up his uniform after 20 seasons as a professional player, and will start next chapter of his basketball journey as an assistant on Valencia head coach Joan Penarroya staff.

San Emeterio played a total of 10 seasons in the EuroLeague – seven with Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz and three with Valencia Basket. His best season came in 2010-11 when he averaged 13.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists and led the league in PIR with 19.1 in carrying Baskonia to the EuroLeague Playoffs. San Emeterio earned All-EuroLeague First Team honors that season. He also played four seasons in the EuroCup – one with Akasvayu Girona and three with Valencia.

Over the course of his career, San Emeterio has stuffed his trophy case with all sorts of titles. He was the hero of Baskonia's 2010 Spanish League finals victory over FC Barcelona when he scored the go-ahead, title-clinching basket-plus-foul, which has gone down as one of the most iconic images in club history. He also won the Spanish League in 2017 in Valencia. San Emeterio won the Spanish SuperCup once each with Baskonia and Valencia. He also took home Spanish Copa del Rey in 2009 with Baskonia and the 2007 FIBA Euro Cup with Girona. A long-time member of the Spanish national team, San Emeterio captured EuroBasket gold medals in 2011 and 2015 and EuroBasket bronze medals in 2013 and 2017. He won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Brussino (2.02 meters, 28 years old) arrives from Casademont Zaragoza, where he averaged 11.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in 36 Spanish League games this season, hitting 42.7% of his three-point shots. It is his second stint with Gran Canaria, as he already played for his current team in the 2017-18 season, averaging 4.0 points in 7 EuroCup games. Brussino started his career in his native Argentina, playing for San Martin Marcos Juarez, Regatas Corrientes and Peñarol Mar del Plata. He also played for Dallas and Atlanta of the NBA, Texas and Erie Bay of the G League, and Iberostar Tenerife of Spain. Brussino is also a regular member of the Argentinean national team, helping it win a silver medal at the 2019 World Cup. He won a gold medal with Argentina at the 2019 Panamerican Games and consecutive silver medals at the FIBA America Championships in 2015 and 2017.

Edigin (2.01 meters, 25 years old) arrives from Bayer Giants Leverkusen, where he averaged 8.6 points and 5.5 rebounds in 35 German second division games last season. He started his career with FC Bayern Munich's second team and also played for Giants TSV 1861 Noerdlingen, Brose Baskets Bamberg and Baunach Young Pikes before joining Leverkusen. Edigin has also been a member of the German U20 national team. 

"I was very happy about the offer from Hamburg Towers. Pedro (Calles) told me very quickly what he expected from me," Edigin said. "He trusts me to make the leap into the German League. I am very grateful that I can now prove myself here."

Sulaimon (1.94 meters, 27 years old) arrives from Casademont Zaragoza, where he averaged 8.0 points in 28 Spanish League games last season. He started his career with Greensboro of the G League and has also played for JDA Dijon Bourgogne and Boulogne Metropolitans 92 before joining Zaragoza late in the 2019-20 campaign. He led Dijon to the French Leaders Cup in which he earned tournament MVP honors after scoring 20 points in the championship game against LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne. Sulaimon has also been a member of the Nigerian national team and helped USA win respective gold medals at the 2012 U18 FIBA Americas Championship and the 2013 U19 World Championships.

Brooks (2.03 meters, 32 years old) arrives from AX Armani Exchange Milan, where he spent the past three seasons. He helped Milan reach the EuroLeague Final Four and win the Italian Cup last season, during which he appeared in 32 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games and averaged 2.1 points and 2.2 rebounds.

Brooks returns to the 7DAYS EuroCup for the first time since the 2016-17 season in which he helped Unicaja Malaga capture the title. He has also played for Italian sides Mapooro Cantu, Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari, Jesi and JuveCaserta and in Russia for Avtodor Saratov. He has won six titles in Italy - the Italian SuperCup, Italian Cup and Italian League in 2014-15 with Sassari, the Italian SuperCup with Cantu in 2012 and with Milan in 2019, and the Italian Cup last season.

Thompson (1.93 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Happy Casa Brindisi of Italy, where he spent the past two seasons. He was named to the All-Basketball Champions League second team last season after averaging 12.1 points and 5.3 assists in 12 games. Thompson made his professional debut with ZZ Leiden in 2018-19 and was named the MVP of the Dutch League. Before that Thompson played college basketball at the University of Tennessee, University of Virginia and Western Kentucky University.

Vives (1.92 meters, 28 years old) arrives from Valencia Basket, where he played in the last seven seasons. He averaged 4.5 points and 2.3 assists in 26 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games in the 2020-21 campaign. Vives helped Valencia win the EuroCup title in 2019 and lifted the Spanish League trophy in 2017.

He also helped Valencia to the EuroCup final and won the Spanish SuperCup in 2017. Vives returns to his former club, as he started his career with Joventut and also played for its affiliated team, Prat, before joining Valencia in 2014. Vives has been a member of the Spanish national team, with which he won a gold medal at EuroBasket 2015 and a bronze medal at EuroBasket 2017. Vives was also successful in youth categories with Spain; he won a gold medal at the 2011 U18 European Championship and a bronze medal at the 2013 U20 European Championship. In 64 EuroCup games with Valencia, Vives amassed 312 points (4.9 ppg.) and 183 assists (2.9 apg.).

Mika (2.09 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Partizan NIS Belgrade, where he averaged 6.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in 12 EuroCup games last season. Before that, split his 2019-20 campaign among three teams. He averaged 19.9 points and 11.7 rebounds for Xinjiang Flying Tigers in the Chinese League and 18.8 points and 7.3 boards for Stockton in the G-League. Mika also posted 6 points and 7 games in a single appearance for Sacramento in the NBA. This will mark Mika's third season in the 7DAYS EuroCup, as he also suited up for Germani Brescia in the 2018-19 campaign, averaging 3.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 9 games. He has also played for VL Pesaro in Italy and college basketball at Brigham Young University.

Ogut (1.78 meters, 29 years old) arrives from Gaziantep, where he spent seven of the last eight seasons – with a stop at Bahcesehir in the middle. He averaged 9.6 points and was second in the Turkish League with 6.6 assists per game last season. Ogut began his career with Turk Telekom and played for the senior squad in the 2010-11 and 2012-13 seasons.
