Valencia Basket on Monday hired Joan Peñarroya to be its head coach for the coming season. Peñarroya, 52, arrives from San Pablo Burgos, where he spent the last two seasons. He helped Burgos win back-to-back Basketball Champions League titles in 2020 and 2021. Burgos also lifted the Intercontinental Cup trophy in 2021 and made it to the Spanish League semifinals in 2020. A former player, Peñarroya started his coaching career with CB Olesa, and also spent time with CB Navas, MoraBanc Andorra and Basquet Manresa. He helped Andorra win the Spanish third division title in 2012 and lifted the Spanish second division in 2014 to guide the team back to the Spanish elite. Peñarroya coached Andorra in the 2017-18 7DAYS EuroCup campaign, which was his eighth consecutive season with the club. Peñarroya now returns to the EuroCup to coach the winningest team in competition history.
