A long relationship got extended even longer as on Saturday LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne announced that veteran guard David Lighty will play for the team until the end of the 2025-26 season. Lighty (1.95 meters, 31 years old) averaged 11.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.0 rebounds in 33 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague appearances last season, 25 of them as a starter. Lighty first joined ASVEL in 2014, and after a couple of seasons there, he moved to Italy in 2016-17. However, after that season he moved back to Lyon, and has played with ASVEL since. When the contract comes to an end, Lighty will have played a total 11 seasons with the club and he will play there until the end of his career, as the club announced.

Lighty has won three French League titles, including one this season, three French Cup titles and was also named MVP of the French final last month. He has played a total 371 games with the ASVEL jersey and has become a fan favorite that has been vocal about his attachment to the city of Lyon. "It could not have happened any other way." club president Tony Parker said. "When absolutely everyone told me 'We must keep him' we do everything we can to achieve just that. David will end his career with us, have his jersey retired, and we will celebrate everything he has brought us... but before all that, he will continue to win titles and bring us joy every day!"
