Real Madrid officially announced the arrival of point guard Thomas Heurtel, who signed a contract with Los Blancos until the end of the 2021-22 season. Heurtel (1.89 meters, 32 years old) arrives from LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, where he averaged 14.4 points and 6.2 assists in 23 French League games last season. He helped ASVEL win the French League and the French Cup titles in 2021. He started the 2020-21 season with FC Barcelona, averaging 2.9 points and 2.4 assists in 12 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games off the bench. Heurtel started his career with Pau-Orthez of his native France. He also played for Strasbourg also of France, Alicante, TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz and Barcelona of Spain, and Anadolu Efes Istanbul of Turkey. Heurtel ranks fifth in assists in the EuroLeague's all-time standings with 1,216, and has scored 2,196 points in 226 career games with Baskonia, Efes and Barcelona. He was named the EuroLeague MVP for February 2017, averaging 16.7 points, 10.7 assists and a PIR of 23.0 for Efes. Heurtel led the 2014-15 and 2015-16 EuroLeague in assists, averaging 6.4 and 7.9, respectively. He helped Efes win the Turkish Cup title in 2015, and won consecutive Spanish Copa del Rey crowns with Barcelona in 2018 and 2019, earning tournament MVP honors twice. Heurtel has also been a member of the French national team. He won a gold medal with France at EuroBasket 2013, and a bronze medal in the 2014 World Cup.
